The project

The aim of the Ubuntu^sci project is to develop a remix of Ubuntu Linux for use by scientists. The vision of the project is that Ubuntu^sci (and thus Ubuntu) will become the premier choice of desktop operating system for researchers and scientists. Ubuntu^sci is being developed as an Ubuntu remix and all work is released as OSS. The name

The name ubuntu^sci is derived from Ubuntu and science - it captures the idea of Ubuntu, modified for science.

To facilitate the writing of the name in plain text (where we cannot have a superscript), the name is sometimes written Ubuntu[sci]

We now have approval of our new name. The new name is Ubuntu^sci, and the website and wiki will be changing appropriately over the coming days.
